The Greatest Politician Ever!!

The former mayor of Lajitas was certainly unique.

Just as the southern belle with white gloves avoids a popsicle, most Wildcatters instinctively know to avoid conversations regarding politics. It is a very low-odds proposition.

It is highly unlikely you will change someone’s mind about a political matter, however there is a good chance you will offend someone and risk the damage to a current of future deal in the process.

However staying true to our motto “Fortune Favors the Bold”, the Wildcatters Network is going out on a limb to proclaim the greatest politician of all time:

CLAY HENRY SR. – Former Mayor of Lajitas, Texas

Clay Henry Sr. was a beer-drinking goat, officially elected mayor in 1986. Yes…we said beer-drinking goat! Although not remotely outspoken, Clay Henry Sr. had a deep love for his fair city of Lajitas, located on the Rio Grande River border between Texas and Mexico. His passion for hops was legendary, regularly consuming up to 40 beers in a single day.

The Wildcatters Network proudly honors Clay Henry Sr. as the Greatest Politician Ever for the following reasons:

  1. He never broke a campaign promise
  2. A chamber of commerce dream, he single handedly increased tourism multi-fold in this quiet little border town
  3. He had a great respect for nature, spending virtually every waking moment in the great outdoors
  4. Town hall meetings were succinct and never ran over time
  5. He had appreciation for life’s finer things…namely Lone Star Beer!!

Sadly, the reign of Clay Henry Sr. came to an abrupt end in 1992 during. Clay Henry Sr. was murdered in broad daylight, during rutting season, by none other than Clay Henry Jr. Although never officially diagnosed, Clay Henry Jr. was widely believed to have suffered from a severe Oedipus Complex. Despite this medical condition, Clay Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps as the next mayor of Lajitas. The dynasty continued with Mayor Clay Henry III, however subsequent generations never mastered the art of beer drinking quite like Clay Henry Sr.

In tribute to this legendary politician, Clay Henry Sr.’s body was stuffed and mounted in the Lajitas Trading Post for years. As further tribute, the Lajitas Resort named their world class bar in honor of their legendary mayor: The Thirsty Goat Saloon!!
