Founded in 1975, the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum is a fantastic adventure through one of a Wildcatter’s favorite industries. The museum underwent an amazing $18,000,000 renovation and re-opened its doors in April of 2016.
The journey begins 230 million years ago when the Permian seas and reefs were in full form. The museum then traces the evolution of this exciting industry, from Colonel Drakes first well in Pennsylvania in 1859 all the way through the modern revolution in resource plays.
The museum has interactive education and entertainment for all ages with over 40,000 square feet of magic. In addition to historical perspectives of the oil and gas industry, the museum has amazing exhibits of art, rocks and minerals, as well as the Chaparral Gallery that showcases the career of race car legend Jim Hall.
The museum is located at 1500 Interstate 20 West in Midland, Texas. Hours of operations are Monday thru Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Wildcatter Hint: Save time to explore the outdoor exhibits of vintage drilling rigs and equipment.
