Cigar 101 – Smoking The Cigar

Get to know your way around a cigar.

To properly light your cigar, read the first part of our series here!

To smoke like you have experience and not like a total newbie, hold the cigar in between your thumb, index and middle finger. If you hold it like a cigarette you risk getting real cigar smoker’s disdain & eye-rolling.

Draw slowly and don’t inhale; keep the smoke in your mouth and exhale slowly. Wait as it seductively gyrates and dances out of your mouth. It should be a nice and easy flow of smoke slowly exiting your mouth in a swirl of deliciousness.

Unlike cigarettes, cigars will not continually burn on their own. You must puff to keep them going, about once a minute is fine. It will probably go out while you are telling that story about your trip to New Orleans for the 10th time…

Now savor the years of preparation that cigar tobacco, actually three different tobaccos, had to endure.  Starting as a seed, it had to grow in terroir, survive conditions, be selected as a quality leaf, picked at just the right time, cured, fermented, stripped, prepped, hand rolled, stored, packed and shipped to you. So, treat it right and enjoy!
