Wildcatters take traveling very seriously and a major player in the game of travel is accommodation. Your experience at a hotel can either make or break your trip, so you want to choose the best fit for you. If you find yourself in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico then we have the place for you. San Miguel is a UNESCO World Heritage site, full of diverse cultures and a deep history. The Rosewood San Miguel takes hotel luxury to the next level in this small and charming yet bustling city. For this, we are giving the hotel our Wildcatter’s Seal of Approval.
It is quite different from the usual small boutique hotels in the town center that are wedged between buildings. Only a nine minute walk from the Central Plaza (Jardín Allende), it occupies a large plot of land, a little off the beaten path. With 67 beautiful rooms and suites, delicious dining, tennis courts, swimming pool, a wine cellar, a boutique, and an art gallery, you may never want to leave.
Standing outside the front entrance of The Rosewood, you can feel its grandeur. As you walk through the pink arches, you are welcomed by fine art statues and an open courtyard. There is a great sense of style, using bright colors that reflect those of the city. Open air corridors lead you to your room, allowing you to enjoy the great weather. Rooms are spacious, accented with hand carved furniture, local art, wood beamed ceilings, and terraces for al fresco dining or stargazing.
For dinner, be sure to check out Luna Rooftop Tapas Bar for a great a view of the city, especially at sunset. Order from a variety of international tapas and delicious handcrafted cocktails that will be sure to satisfy you. The other restaurant on property, 1826, offers a “farm-to-table” dining experience with their heavy use of local ingredients. Across the hall is a tequila lover’s dream: 1826 Tequila Bar. There is even a “Tequilier” (tequila sommelier) who can tell you all about their collection of over 120 tequila labels. For those sleepy mornings that may follow, we suggest room service enjoyed on your room’s terrace.
Wildcatter dining tip: Reserve a spot at their private dining area, Los Pirules, located in the garden. You can enjoy a meal made in the stone oven or on a traditional grill in front of you, or even take a cooking class.
Don’t forget to relax after all the eating and exploring you will be doing! The spa, Sense, is an amazing experience with great service. In the relaxation room, you are offered a variety of fresh tea leaves, along with a neck pillow while waiting on your therapist. Pure bliss ensues during your treatment, with your choice of music and aromas. Your are then given a tiny chamomile tea with a mini cookie to end your service, and the opportunity to enjoy the saunas as long as you’d like.
The Rosewood San Miguel provides a very well rounded experience from start to finish. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere happy, making it hard to say goodbye at the end of your trip.
