Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon is an award winning spirit finished in port wine casks. The brain child of the Henderson family, who has a long tradition in the bourbon world, they have found liquid gold in their recipe. Angel’s Envy is aged in port barrels that lend a subtle sweetness and balance to the handcrafted bourbon. After more than two years of traditional bourbon aging, Angel’s Envy spends its last 3 to 6 months in French oak imported from Portugal.
According to their website, “we lose about 5% of the spirit each year to ‘the Angel’s Share,’ what’s left behind after we’re done is truly worthy of envy.”
One will find hints of vanilla maple syrup, and bitter chocolate when tasting. It has an easy glide and a sweet aroma, or nose, of vanilla and raisins. The finish is where the genius of aging the bourbon in port barrels comes into play. The finish bring slight hints of Madeira that rounds out the bourbon and makes Angel’s Envy unique.
