The Misnomer of “Businessman”

Businessmen are really just problem solvers.

A generally accepted definition of businessman is: a person who makes his living by engaging in commerce.

Everyone has a preconceived notion of a businessman. We have images of a type “A” person screaming in the phone, dictating a demand letter, and dashing off to the next high stakes board meeting.

Hollywood has done a great job of creating the visual imagery of tyrants that make people bend to their will.

Think Daniel Plainview.

Think Gordon Gecko.

If you are old enough, think Charles Foster Kane.

In reality, though, a truly successful businessman is rarely the caricature we see on the silver screen.

Regardless of the industry, the defining characteristic of a businessman is actually:

PROBLEM SOLVER!!

Fortunes are made by solving problems and making the human condition more tolerable.

Why is Bill Gates the richest man in the world??? Because he solved a multitude of problems in both the business and personal lives of virtually everyone on the entire planet.

The foundation of every great fortune centers around solving a problem. Better housing, quicker food, more entertainment, affordable fuel, and the list goes on.

Aspiring Wildcatters need to forget the stereotypes of a businessman.

Simply focus on providing solutions to the everyday problems that vex society.

Then, you will be a successful businessman!!
