In its first year, The Cher Show wins 2 of their 3 Tony nominations!
Broadway veteran, Stephanie J. Block won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance as “Star”. This is Block’s third Tony nomination and first win. She was previously nominated for The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Falsettos. Her other Broadway credits include Wicked, The Boy from Oz, 9 to 5, Anything Goes and The Pirate Queen.
Legendary Hollywood costumer, Bob Mackie, took home his first Tony for Best Costume Design in a Musical. The longtime friend and designer of Cher has won nine Emmy awards and has been nominated for three Oscars. Mackie is the first person in Tony history to take home the costume design award for a production in which they are also a character.
Cher even took to twitter to twitter to express her pure joy for Mackie’s win.
