“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”
-Abraham Lincoln
Blind optimism is dangerous to Wildcatters. One must consider all of the options, both good and bad. However, no optimism at all is a sure fire way to never succeed. The easiest task in the business world is to find reasons that a deal won’t work. Actually, the ability to conceive and consider worst case scenarios can be very valuable. The ability to integrate all of the data points at your disposal and craft a wonderful outcome, however, is where success begins.
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
-Winston Churchill
Many people are born with an almost innate optimism, while others must work very hard to embrace the concept. There is no school in the world that can teach you to be optimistic. It must be honed over time and experience. But here is the secret: Optimism alone is never enough. Once a Wildcatter has put his plan in motion, he must pour his heart and soul into making his vision a reality. This becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy and an affirmation that good things can happen with the right amount of passion and work!!
“People who wonder if the glass is half empty or half full miss the point…the glass is refillable!!!”
-Mr. P.
