Sister Aimee at SxSW

5 1/2 percent truth; the rest: imagination…

Sister Aimee had three successful showings at South by Southwest (SxSW) film festival and we had the privilege to catch a screening. The crowd loved it, as did we! This film was written and directed by power couple Samantha Buck and Marie Schlingmann. As revealed in the Q&A after the showing lead actress, Anna Margaret Hollyman, came to the duo with this idea. The film depicts the ever elusive five-week disappearance of the real-life evangelist, Aimee Semple McPherson, in 1926. No one knows the truth, but this imaginary story sure had us captivated. Sister Aimee is quirky, exuberant, funny and feminist; we thoroughly enjoyed it and were smiling the whole time!
