Earlier this week, the Merge VR team unveiled their latest product, the Merge 6DoF Blaster, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, which is one of the largest annual technology trade shows in the world. The Blaster is a Nerf-like gun with a mount for your smartphone, allowing you to play various virtual reality/augmented reality (VR/AR) shooting games through apps on your phone.
What makes the Blaster so special is that it uses your phone’s sophisticated positional tracking technology to track your movements, meaning you can move around, jump, and duck in the real world and the game will correspond in the virtual world. Think VR laser tag with your friends in the backyard or simply sitting on your couch and shooting aliens in your living room. The groundbreaking gameplay and immersive experience will make previous VR/AR Blasters obsolete.
Just like they did with their award-winning AR/VR Cube, Merge will open up the software kit to all developers, to see what kind of innovative gaming experiences they can come up with. The reactions from distributors, retailers, gamers, bloggers, and tech fanatics at CES have been overwhelmingly positive. Check out what some of them are saying by clicking the links below:
