12 Mighty Orphans Wins Big

12 Mighty Orphans, director Ty Roberts’ inspiring drama based on the real-life exploits of a Fort Worth orphanage football team that attracted national attention during the Great Depression, scored big at the Fifth Annual Cowboys & Indians Movie Awards.

The Sony Pictures Classic release was voted the top prizes for Best Picture and Best Director. But its victories didn’t end there: Martin Sheen triumphed in the Best Supporting Actor category for his portrayal of Doc Hall, the hard-drinking but big-hearted doctor at the Masonic School for Orphans; and Vinessa Shaw claimed Best Supporting Actress honors for her portrayal of Juanita Russell, the supportive wife of coach Rusty Russell (Luke Wilson).”
